Celebrating Burnley Talent and so much more

29 Jan , 2016

I began the week on a high note with a visit to a training session of Burnley’s Elite Swimming Club, Bob Cats. Bob Cats, established over thirty years ago has a reputation for excellence. The standards are high and several of the squad members have already distinguished themselves in County and National tournaments. I was very impressed by the hard work and commitment of the swimmers who regularly start their day at 5 am with a two hour training session then do a full day at school or college, followed by homework and an evening training session.

Cuts Start to Hurt

22 Jan , 2016

As MP every day is different and life is definitely never boring. This week has been no exception: my office has been particularly busy supporting residents with a whole host of issues. My recent surgery still prevents me from driving but that hasn’t stopped me getting out and about across the constituency to help residents with the problems they face.

Of course work to support those affected by the recent floods continues. It is good news that much of the repair work is now underway and compensation payments are coming through to both home owners and businesses but there is still more to do.

Young People and Community

20 Jan , 2016

I was delighted to attend the Annual Student Awards at Thomas Whitham Sixth Form Centre. It was a real pleasure to celebrate the achievements of a group of talented young people. I applaud the staff and governors who have worked so hard to ensure that these Burnley young people get the very best start in life. Thomas Whitham’s is proud of them and Burnley should be too.

Padiham Floods Must Never Be Allowed to Happen Again

26 Dec , 2015

Burnley MP vows to demand action from the Prime Minister on Padiham floods

Julie Cooper MP said:

“I am truly shocked by the devastation caused by the floods in Padiham and parts of Burnley and share the upset that many local people are feeling – especially having to face this over the Christmas period.

But as the local MP I have been incredibly proud to see the Padiham spirit shine through as the whole community has come together to help one another.

My thoughts are with all the families and local businesses affected by the floods and as I said when I visited Padiham in the aftermath, I will be working with the community to help Padiham get back on its feet.
