Fight to Save Our General Post Office

BURNLEY’S Head Post Office is to close in its current form and be franchised.

The Post Office has announced it is to franchise 20% of all British Crown post offices, including Burnley’s Hargreaves Street branch, and will almost certainly lead to the loss of services and jobs.

Under the plans, branches will close and Post Office services will be operated from shops in the local area.

NHS Trust Chief Executive dismisses MP’s claims of A&E return (Lancashire Telegraph 7th March, 2012)

Mr Birtwistle (MP) pledged to get an A&E department back in Burnley as part of his 2010 electio campaign. He said: “We are going to get a new £9million emergency unit in Burnley. I’m absolutel delighted because it’s something we have been battling for five years.

Shadow Minister visits Gannow Ward and meets local residents

Helen Jones Labour MP, Shadow Minister visited Gannow Ward last week to meet Betsy Stringer. Helen also commented on the issues facing Burnley.

“Burnley and Lancashire are being let down by the Lib Dems and Tories. Every person in Burnley is having £88 taken away through the Government’s cuts to council services which is three times larger than the cut in the South East. The cuts are hitting the areas most in need hardest and that is simply unfair.

Government's NHS reforms

Gordon Birtwistle MP  was quoted recently saying " I believe the Government should be open and honest about the NHS reforms"  Why then can he not be open and honest about the proposals for Burnley General Hospital? He persists in perpetuating the myth that A&E is soon to be returned to Burnley.  It is true that the Hospital Trust have bid for £9 million. If the bid is successful the money will be spent making a better Urgent Care Centre.

COMMUNITY SEEK PUBLIC APOLOGY FOR MP 'DECEPTION'

COMMUNITY LEADERS SEEK PUBLIC APOLOGY FROM MP FOR DECEPTION
OVER RETURN OF BLUE LIGHT SERVICE TO BURNLEY HOSPITAL

Health campaigners in Burnley and Pendle are calling on Gordon Birtwistle MP to own up to gross exaggeration in his announcement before Christmas of a new A&E unit for Burnley General Hospital.

At a 'high level summit' with local health Chiefs last week they were told that it was totally inaccurate by the Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle to give the impression that bringing forward a planned development for the Urgent Care Centre would mean any change to existing services particularly the return of a blue light service.

Letter: Concern over Index of Poverty

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am concerned with the recent release of the office of fair tradings index of poverty in the north west. There have been plenty of other articles on the same matter with the majority concerning child poverty. All the articles make for bad reading, Burnley is rated 4th on the Index for the north west region with 29%; marginally behind Liverpool topping the list on 33%.

Letter: Birtwistle Beggars Belief...

It really does beggar belief that our MP, Gordon Birtwistle has voted in the House of Commons to support the Tories reorganisation of the NHS.  This is the biggest reorganisation in the history of the NHS and is in itself going to cost a staggering 3 billion pound.
